Kwangho Son is a researcher in battery fire safety and a marine engineer, with a particular interest in lithium-ion battery safety across electric vehicle, energy storage, and maritime applications. His professional background includes more than five years of experience aboard LNG carriers, followed by experience as a newbuilding superintendent involved in vessel construction, commissioning, and sea trials. He has also contributed to industry-linked battery fire safety projects undertaken as part of his doctoral research at Ulster University, UK. His current research focuses on lithium-ion battery fire behaviour and the safe integration of battery systems in the maritime sector.
