Lawrence functions as the Principal Collaborator that identifies and nurture partnerships with various governmental agencies, Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs), Research Institutes (RIs), SMEs and LLEs (Large Local Enterprises). After graduating from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) with B.Eng (Mechanical and Aeronautical with specialisation in Marine Engineering), Lawrence worked for 15 years in Keppel O&M (now known as Seatrium) in various capacities.
Out stationed in China from 2018-2023, he spent 5 years in a senior leadership role as Vice-President of Keppel Nantong, dealing with business development, corporate services and governmental relations. Lawrence also holds an MBA from University of Strathclyde, Glasgow.
With the need for the industry to adopt cleaner and more sustainable energy sources, his role focuses very much on working with the respective stakeholders to materialise new concepts and bridge regulatory frameworks to fresh ideas.
These would in turn drive the industry towards a net zero carbon emission.

E-Tugs: SEECAT, a model-based approach to enable vessel electrification

Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore is the leader in Classification of full electric coastal vessels and harbor crafts in the APAC region. The first series of fully electric, battery powered ferry in Singapore - Electric Dream - was classed by Bureau Veritas. Bureau Veritas has gone on to class subsequent battery powered electric vessels in Singapore, including the challengingly vessel segments such as Tugs (PaxOcean's EOn). BV is committed towards innovation and has provided and continues to provide type approvals of new battery chemistries in marine & offshore applications.
Alongside classification, Bureau Veritas leverages its technical expertise in providing consulting & advisory towards performance and operations excellence of battery operated vessels - primarily through a model-based approach. Ship Energy Efficiency Calculation and Analysis Tool (SEECAT), BV's proprietary modelling & simulation tool built with Dymola as the platform, which contains a comprehensive model library representing a diverse range of marine equipment, machinery and systems.
Typically, BV would support the integrated modelling of disparate equipment and systems to best represent the vessel theoretically to simulate its performance under a credible set of scenarios - a permutation & combination of random variables such as sea-states, metocean conditions, operating profiles, interface variables with extraneous systems, etc. The end-goal is optimization and the object could be total cost of ownership of the battery powered vessel, revenue maximization, or enhanced reliability. SEECAT could be applied at the pre-FEED or FEED phases as well to provide an alternative opinion and technical due diligence before committing to electrification on challenging vessel segments.
